I can't believe I've only been back from Europe a week. Between hitting the ground running at the office (we are in the final throes of getting our May issue out the door), attending four kids' birthday parties over the weekend, covering the Oscars, and launching our fabulous April cover, it's felt like months! |

Our April cover star, (un)gentle parents, and CVFF hopefuls |

We all fell in love with Doja Cat at Vogue World: Hollywood, where she had the best attitude—and the strongest strut—of anyone that evening. I loved how Willy Vanderperre and Carlos Nazario shot her for April; she looks so totally in control in the best way. (The bright red satin trench coat from Givenchy with the Marilyn coif is my favorite look.)
Last week, writer Liam Hess and I caught up with Doja over Zoom to discuss everything from her taxidermy collection to the merits of therapy and her emergency vet calls for her Maine Coon cat, Axel, who guest-starred. She's also a host of this year's Vogue Vintage Market, and I keep laughing because our ever-professional special events team listed her on the guest list as "Ms. Cat."
We've been talking a lot at Vogue about gentle parenting (and its critics) lately. It's something that I grapple with in my own household, where my daughter Alice will be wailing on the floor because her blueberries touched her bagel and my husband Graham, a paragon of gentle parenting, will respond in dulcet tones: "Alice, I see you're upset right now. You're really crying a lot about your breakfast." Well, Emma Specter has written an impassioned ode to the "Mean Mom" this week. (I use scare quotes because Emma's mother—whom I happen to know and revere—isn't mean, exactly; just principled and opinionated.) I absolutely loved reading Emma's account—and seeing Vogue staffers come out of the woodwork to admit that they, too, loved and felt grateful for their ungentle parents!
And applications for the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund—one of my favorite initiatives—are live! I can't wait to see which exciting designers make the group this year. Apply! The deadline open until April 10! |

For big movies, basketball, AND breakdancing |
The Barclays Center for the Nets Game I am not big on basketball, but we are all diehard fans of Ellie the Elephant at Vogue (and the team she reps!) so I was thrilled to see the Brooklyn Nets—the Liberty's stadium mates—for one of their last games of the season on Monday. Obsessed with the Malle Wear jersey they gifted me. |
Kids' Movies and Plays I went to see Hoppers with my children on Saturday afternoon and it was thrilling; everyone should jump, not walk, to a theater near you. Then, on Sunday morning, I went to the New Victory Theater on 42nd Street for an amazing production by the breakdancing group ILL-Abilities. (My son Arthur has been talking about it for the last three days.) I am always in awe of the shows at the New Victory and this one was no exception; I loved the way the troupe members turned their disabilities on their heads—quite literally. |
A bold color, bespoke blankets, and a good book |
Spring Trends Report I live for Laird Borrelli-Persson's semi-annual trend reports after the collections. She has an amazing ability to synthesize the season in ways I don't expect—like by calling the see-through plastic trend seen at Tom Ford and Adam Lippes "The Ghost in You." She also emboldens me to consider embracing some of these trends. Could I ever wear a dropped-waist belt? Doubtful, but dare to dream! |
Moss is Boss We like to talk about "touching grass" at the Vogue offices, i.e. taking a moment out of our frenetic days to walk around verdant lower Manhattan. All the moss on the fall runways—from Hermès to Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton—certainly made that easy, though landscape designers, floral designers, and artists are using it in their work, too. My favorite was LVMH prize finalist Thevxlley, who made a living, moss-covered corset. Anna Grace Lee went deep on it all this week. |
White Derby Shoes Everyone in Paris seemed to be wearing white flats, from almond-toe glove shoes to lace-up derbys. I don't know that I am rigorous enough to keep a pair of white leather shoes clean, but I do love the idea of them! |
