I am back in New York and very happy to be reunited with everyone, from colleagues to children. My son was proud to show off his completed four-story Lego model of the Daily Bugle headquarters (a project he has been working on since Christmas), reconfirming for me that print media is, indeed, alive and well! |

Grand dames and Oscar winners |
| |
I feel there is always a healthy sprinkling of iconic, older actresses during fashion month, but from Martha Stewart in New York and Helen Mirren at Erdem to Marisa Berenson at Givenchy and Sissy Spacek at Loewe, this season seemed exceptional—and I loved it! As a Badlands die-hard I gasped for Sissy, and at the Givenchy dinner Marisa was as elegant and wise as you would expect. (She also shut down a conversation about who was heading to Coachella when she said she hadn't been to a music festival since Woodstock and didn't plan to start anytime soon.) Hear about all of this and more on the latest episode of The Run-Through, with Chioma, Nicole, and Vogue France's Claire Thomson-Jonville!
This weekend is the Oscars, and of course we're all wondering who will win best actress and what she'll wear to receive her statuette. Will it be Jessie Buckley? I've loved the evolution of her awards season style, orchestrated by Danielle Goldberg; the cobalt velvet Chanel moment at the BAFTAs was a favorite. Going through every best actress winner's look on Oscars night, it's interesting to tally up the designers and see which one is a good luck charm! Vogue Business also did a great breakdown of how celebrity brand deals really work.
Speaking of best actress winners: There has been much discussion in our office of Liza Minnelli's new memoir, Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!—I personally will be downloading the audiobook, which she reads herself—and Emma Specter did a hall-of-fame version of her "I Want What They Have" column on just a few of Liza's many paramours.
My mom grew up with Liza, and when I asked her if she wanted to write about that her response was: "Good idea but there's no story!! We just were over at her house and Judy gave us stuff to put on!" Nepos had it better then! |

For shopping and gallery-hopping |
Paris Shops I love to see what the editors, influencers, and buyers are actually purchasing during fashion month—especially this season, as all the new creative directors' first collections hit stores. While the much-reported pandemonium at Chanel only confirmed Matthieu Blazy's triumph, I also found quite a few people slinking over to Celine for the jazz shoes and Trio bags. I got a fire-engine red one myself as my big purchase of the season.
I also made my semi-annual pilgrimage to Dries and got a brown striped silk skirt with a ruffle. Stylist Dara Allen, for her part, told me about her forays into Repetto, where she discovered you can order shoes in custom colorways.
I like to do a Monoprix deep-dive for my kids, and on this trip I got a cherry-print raincoat for Alice and chic linen collarless button-downs for Arthur. There were additional stops at Petit Bateau and Le Bon Marché. |
Gagosian Paris I've loved Joseph Cornell since college and always been delighted by his weird and whimsical vitrines. The shoebox-sized Gagosian gallery on Rue de Castiglione has a wonderful exhibition designed by Wes Anderson, featuring a to-scale recreation of Cornell's home studio in New York with a variety of his works displayed within it. The show is meant to be viewed from outside, through the gallery window—get it? Like the vitrines themselves? I went with Lanvin designer Peter Copping and we both were awed. featuring a to-scale. |
Vogue Vintage Market I am so excited for our second annual Vogue Vintage Market, returning to SoHo on March 28 and hosted this year by none other than Doja Cat! Seeing how personal all of the recent collections were made me want to invest in old pieces that mean something, and I hope you will too—thanks eBay! Sign up for your tickets now on the Vogue app. |
A bold color, bespoke blankets, and a good book |
Royal Purple From Celine to Balenciaga, royal purple was the color of the season. We have a styling guide here and I'm thinking my way in may be a crewneck Dries sweater. |
Iditarod Sled Race Blankets Christian Allaire has covered model Quannah Chasinghorse's career since her early days, so it was a delight to see that coverage expand to her mother, Jody Potts-Joseph. Jody, a Hän Gwich'in musher in Alaska, is participating in this year's Iditarod, an 1,000-mile dogsled race, and she had some 30 Indigenous artists create custom beaded blankets for her dogs. I want one for Lloyd! |
Mavis Gallant's The Paris Stories The Franco-English bookstore Galignani on the Rue de Rivoli is a rarified Paris gem that I love to pop into whenever I'm in the area. (After zipping through a galley of Lena Dunham's excellent forthcoming memoir Famesick, I needed a new book anyway.) I like short story collections for fashion month because with the long days, they feel easier to dip in and out of than a thick novel. The one I picked up this time was Mavis Gallant's The Paris Stories, which I'm still enjoying in New York. |
