With Memorial Day now behind us, I feel like we are fully in the summer swing. I find this the easiest time of year to dress: slippy dresses and sandals take you from school—then day-camp—drop-off all the way through to a dinner you can hopefully stroll to. We had a soggy but sweet Memorial Day weekend with a Disney Villain-themed birthday for Arthur and a matinee screening of The Sheep Detectives, my favorite film of the year so far!

Chillin’ Like a Villain
The villains took their typical weather-related revenge and turned Arthur’s Disney Villain-themed sixth birthday celebration into a stormy scene. Since we were up in northwest Connecticut, the party became a garage rager, where my mother dressed up like Maleficent and we had Cruella’s spotted scones, Gaston’s dozen-egg frittata, and Ursula’s “Poor Unfortunate Souls” seaweed. I do think the Disney Villains are the chicest characters; I love the strong collars on Maleficent and the Evil Queen in Snow White, and Cinderella’s stepmother’s door-knocker emeralds.

Queen Norma Jean
Monday marks what would have been Marilyn Monroe’s 100th birthday, and I can’t wait to go see Niagara and Some Like It Hot on a big screen at the Film Forum retrospective in her honor. Until then, there’s Lilah Ramzi-Goettemann’s deep dive into the famous pink “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” dress from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which goes on display at the Academy Museum this weekend.

That’s a Wrap!
Nicole Phelps had the exclusive news of Henry Zankov heading to be creative director of DVF’s beloved brand. We love Henry, a former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Funder and designer of his own namesake brand, whose knits and paillettes are beloved by exuberant fashion girlies. (Henry also worked for von Furstenberg a decade ago, so this is a joyful appointment.) I actually had lunch with Diane at her office in the Meatpacking District last Thursday, and over couscous and parsnips got to hear the update for her half-century-old brand. On the way out, I also got to say hello to Henry, who was already deep into building his fall inspiration board. He’ll show his first collection for the house during NYFW.

Let’s Go to the Movies!
My family has all the summer blockbusters on our calendar, by which I mean Toy Story 5, Minions 3, and Moana. But I am also personally excited about The Odyssey and Couture—and I sobbed at the end of the charming, wonderful The Sheep Detectives. Who knew Julia Louis-Dreyfus was born to play an ewe? It’s a good season for revisiting old favorites, too, and this week we rounded up some of the most stylish summer movies of all time.

Rainbow Buffets
Wes Gordon and Paul Arnhold hosted a dinner celebrating Martina Mondadori’s latest issue of Cabana Magazine, featuring designer Stephen Sills’s Bedford home. The party was a classic uptown affair (fingerlings with caviar and heaps of magenta peonies); the highlight for me was the rainbow of colors in the dinner buffet, which made me think that all menus should be planned with color coordination in mind. I also went to Selby Drummond and Charles Porch’s dinner for the handsome podcasters of TBPN at delicious Kiko in Soho and was starstruck by Hasan Minhaj.

Garden Glory
Gardening stores refer to the spring and early summer rush as “100 days of hell” because 80% of their annual business comes during those three-plus months. I feel for them…but also am part of the problem! Arthur and I went to buy some radish and carrot seeds this weekend and have big planting plans. For the May issue, Liam Hess spoke to Alex Crowder, whose chic Field Studies Flora is now branching out into garden tools.

Wedding Belles
The people who declared you can officially wear white after Memorial Day weren’t thinking about brides, but the start of summer does also happen to mark the hurtling launch into wedding season. Shelby Wax did a deeply reported breakdown of how much Vogue weddings really cost, from a sprawling weekend in Tuscany to a more intimate affair in Canada—and I spoke to two of Vogue Weddings’ favorite planners, Marcy Blum and Melissa Sullivan, on the podcast.
