We announced our latest Vogue Book Club pick today—get ready for a Bret Easton Ellis summer! I also saw Moana and The Odyssey on the same day (and loved both) and went to the World Cup final, where I cheered for Lamine Yamal’s little brother.

Moa-dyssey
Last Friday, I had my version of Barbenheimer and saw the new live-action Moana with Arthur in the afternoon and The Odyssey in the evening—call it The Moa-dyssey. They are not dissimilar! A stubborn hero adrift at sea, subject to the whims of fickle demi-gods and feats of maritime derring-do...Moana is basically The Odyssey with better songs and great hair (Moana’s and the Rock’s).
But I loved The Odyssey, even though my Oura Ring reported I was stressed for three hours straight. We have the exclusive interview with its costume designer, Ellen Mirojnick, and Max Berlinger embarked on his own Bodyssey, testing Matt Damon’s quad-forward workout routine for the film. I also loved Laird Borrelli-Persson’s reminder of the ways Grecian dressing has inspired designers for decades.

Wedding Belles
It’s not summer if Liam Hess isn’t battling through the latest high-profile wedding to round out the weekend. Last week, Vogue Weddings shared Mel C’s minimalist Victoria Beckham wedding slip dress (she was joined by three of the four other Spice Girls, with Victoria absent due to the World Cup final), which was a striking contrast to model Gabriette’s maximalist Matières Fécales frock coat and taffeta gown. But my favorite wedding of the week was SubwayTakes’ Kareem Rahma and Karina Muslimova’s joyous NYC celebration.

The Tech Set
Are you a Palantir chore coat or an OpenAI “Research” half-zip? Anna Cafolla examines what the new tech swag says about each company and those who wear it.

World Cup Finals
Graham and I got to go to the World Cup final on Sunday and it was such a thrill. We were guests of the Johnson family and had a great view of the game and halftime show—the highlights of which for me were obviously the Muppets and Gustavo Dudamel. I loved seeing people’s match-day fashion, like Anya Taylor-Joy wearing a skinny scarf in Argentinian blue and white with her all-white ensemble and Eileen Gu pairing her Spain jersey with balloon shorts and Dior slides.

Book Club Is Back!
The Vogue Book Club has your summer beach read handled: We’re doing Bret Easton Ellis’s Less Than Zero in anticipation of Ryan Murphy’s new adaptation of The Shards, which debuts in early August and features a fictional Bret writing his first novel during his last year of high school in Los Angeles—much like Ellis was doing with Less Than Zero 40 years ago. Follow the Vogue App’s Book Club topic page to get the reading guide, read exclusive essays and interviews, and join our group chats about the novel.

Chaos Gardening
My colleague Chloe Schama is a prolific backyard gardener, with her dahlia crop spilling onto her Ditmas Park sidewalk. She’s lately been experimenting with the TikTok trend of chaos gardening and was delighted by the result. My family’s recent gardening efforts have been more focused—Arthur is growing yellow peppers—but I am intrigued to try to let loose a bit more!

Color Me Mine
You can imagine my thrill at discovering that, according to the Vogue Runway team, color is back! I love to see a kaleidoscope on the runways, and from Celine to Dries, there is a real rainbow out there. We’ve been celebrating with a dedicated package on Vogue.com, including Max Berlinger’s piece on the new Kings of Color. (I’ve been leaning into a lot of red myself.)
|
To a T
Graham’s only request to me before the World Cup final was that I wear sensible shoes since he knew we’d be on our feet for most of the day. I opted for a pair of flat, electric blue Prada T-strap sandals and was comfortable all day long. Vogue Shopping recently declared the T-strap the new flip-flop and I couldn’t agree more; they stay on the feet better and look more polished.

I See Your Pointelle!
Ever since Zoë Kravitz was photographed wearing a pointelle camisole on Hampstead Heath, I’ve been seeing every stylish lady wearing the pointillist tops this summer. I love J.Crew, Cou Cou, and Dôen ones and have been pairing them with printed slip skirts.
