I came back from vacation with a bang: this week we launched our September cover! I also swooned for Marcello Mastroianni at Film Forum—getting me in the mood for Vogue World: Milano.

Homer and Kaia
Homer Gere and Kaia Gerber are co-stars in The Shards, the new Ryan Murphy adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’s novel, and we enlisted them for our September cover. We envisioned them in a fashion story about reinventing one’s heritage, looking at some of the fashion houses with new creative directors who are referring to the past but reimagining it for today (for example: Matthieu Blazy’s iridescent chain mail take on the Chanel tweed suit, or Jonathan Anderson’s reinvention of the Bar jacket). The cover also winks back to our 1992 Herb Ritts cover featuring the then-married Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere. I interviewed Kaia and Homer for the podcast and talked about everything from Fred Segal and California Pizza Kitchen to our book club pick, Less Than Zero, which Kaia—ever the diligent student—definitely had notes on.

Karni Knowledge
New York Times political reporter Annie Karni wrote an exceptional essay for our September issue about how she couldn’t help sharing the news of her divorce with all of her political sources. Spoiler alert: Steve Bannon had words of wisdom!

Maestro Mastroianni
I went to Film Forum on Tuesday evening with my friends Sadie and Joana to see Visconti’s White Nights and was swept off my feet by Marcello all over again. The evening got me so excited for Vogue World: Milan, now less than six weeks away! Milano, arriviamo!

A Lotta Le Lot
I just got back from my lovely family vacation in le Lot region of France. I made pesto with bushels of basil, ate lots of mimolette, took my kids riding on Shetland ponies among cornfields, bathed in the Lot river, and got to spend time with my beloved French nieces.

The Out-of-Towners
We sent photographer Amir Hamja out to the wilds of New York City’s summer commuting hubs, from Penn Station to the Blade heliport on the East River. I love these photos of stylish summer travelers ready to kick off their weekends. So many boat totes!

Double Trouble
Photographer Sabrina Santiago headed to Twinsburg, Ohio, for the annual Twins Days Festival and I absolutely love the photos she captured, seeing double. I’ve always been fascinated by twins (my great-grandmother was one of two sets!) and Abraham Verghese’s Cutting for Stone is one of my favorite books. Also, people always think Artie and Alice are twins because she is, err, the same size as him.

Everything Under the Sun
On vacation, my family travels with a bulk supply of Supergoop Play lotion and I head to the French pharmacy to buy fluid sunblock from La Roche-Posay. (I was astounded by the breadth of sunscreens my colleagues swear by!) In France I also stocked up on Klorane hair oil and Marseille soap. My only other beauty essentials on vacation are clear eyebrow gel because I feel naked without that grooming and a tinted lip balm, in this case YSL Beauty’s Candy Glow stick.

What a Serve!
It’s a soft-serve summer in New York City! I was recently drawn to a cone topped with olive oil and sea salt at Soft Swerve, but also went a traditional sprinkle route—chocolate with chocolate sprinkles—when visiting Mister Softee with my children. Anna Grace Lee diligently reported on (and taste-tested) the trend.
